Ever wondered why there are more churches in Kawangware, Mathare and Kibera than there are in Runda,Lavington and Muthaiga? Because hope is all you have in this world, and the good book teaches you that heaven is for the poor!!!
Every time I watched the movies Sarafina,Nelson Mandela and Steve Biko in my younger days, I ended up shedding tears on seeing how "my kind" was being treated during the Apartheid era. Years down the line, the victims and their sons and daughters seems to have mastered the art of hating. They have trampled and urinated on my genuine childhood tears. They have made me wish that Whoopi Goldberg, Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington hadn't wasted their energy and emotions for a lost cause.I am currently reading a Novel "Cry the Beloved Country" by Allan Paton and I can't help but feel like Africa is a cursed continent that blames poverty even where simple logic would suffice. Humanity is a lost cause too.
It seems like my tribesmen from NYERI have not only been stealing from the public coffers but even from the Lord, I hear them in churches singing,
"Njooni TUMUIBIE na tum-shangilie, njooni, TUMUIBIE bwa-aana!"
IBIA bwana IBIA, IBIA IBIA, sababu yu mwema!
I am here watching gospel music on a local channel and I can't help but reminisce the good old days and wonder where/when "twakusifu" transformed to "kamatia chini"
